Animation/Segment Programming
Tuesday - Dec. 8, 2009 6:41 am

As you can see our characters are divided up into body parts, I like to call segments. These segments can be animated in various positions with a simple rotation system. This allows for a greater degree of freedom than our previous classic flip book style.

The previous flip book style was drawing a sequential set of static images and just switching them out quickly to make it look like it was animated. This created a massive amount of extra work when we had the customizable characters. They required each frame to have its own unique image. But not in the new system.

Now we can pump out customizations like no other. Each requiring only a single image for each body part! Another great thing is now enemies and other NPCs can use the same system. This will open up an expansive set of unique enemies that will also be able to wield their own customizations, armor, and weapons.

And last but not least... we will be implementing a built in animation editor to create your own unique character animations. By the press of a button you will be able to do a hand stand, head bang, or anything else you can come up with.

I will be discussing the progress here.

just a thought,

maybe you could make a tutorial on how to do this? like the one for the networking.

I am not asking how to do this :P. I know how I would implement it. but it would be pretty cool for others to see how to do this.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind doing a tutorial for this, but only if people really want to use it. And the method I use might be a little to technology specific.
