Early Animation and Chat Sound

I have started working on the animation system that will be coupled with the new character. The animation in the Demo is not the walking animation he will use. It was just a test loop sequence. Soon even enemies will have animations similar to the player character.

I also finally added a chat sound when someone posts a message. This should help relieve the long waiting times when someone seems to be afk.

Registration Bug Fixed

Woops, when I changed the site layout I forgot to change some important things. One being the registration processing stuff, so some people may have not been able to register for a while.

Well it is all fixed now, and you can also leave comments again. I hope this didn't deter any new users.

Btw, the new base character is in the Demo version now. Next is making an animation editing system. :-)

New Site Layout and Forums

Hey, I guess I haven't posted news in while. I'm on Thanksgiving break and been hard at work as usual. I forgot to broadcast news upon every change I made. So the biggest new things are a new layout of the site. I was tired of the self imposed small space to work in, so I expanded. :D

The other big change includes a new forum for VE! This one is coded from the ground up by me. It may not look pretty or have a lot of features yet, but it works. And now we can have user stats displayed in there.

The next thing I'm gonna tackle on the site is the blog. Which has not housed that many posts, but I'm gonna open it up to the team to post on as well. That should liven it up pretty nice.

Oh and on the Demo side of town, I have been hard at work on a skeleton animation system. You can see an early version of it in there already. Use the arrow keys to mess around with it.

Laser Sight

I've been working on a lot of under the roof features both on the Demo and the site.

The latest update includes flamethrower effects, laser sight, and fixed objects falling through the floor. Report any bugs about the new engine as you see them.

I also took out all advertisements since they weren't showing anything of any use. And be aware that once the 2nd generation VE comes out, the saved stats on your accounts might be reset in the second one. I'll try to make it where you can play both versions with separate stats though. I hope that isn't a problem for anyone.

Early Enemies

Hello people. I got the early version of enemies in the Demo and beware... they're packing heat. Be sure to check it out.

The current enemies are auto aiming and relentless, but once we get further into coding enemies we will have all kinds of difficulty levels for them. Right now I equipped them with Shotguns since it was the weapon with the most delay. Oh be sure to try out the Grenade Launcher it's fully functional now.

Bigger Game Window

I changed the size of the Physics Demo window size. I would love to hear all of your opinions. Try it out and post a comment here if you are for or against it.

Its a good size on my computer and the extra room is a breath of fresh air. I'll be working on VE a lot this coming Thanksgiving break.

Simple Grappling Hook

Just added an early grappling hook. Switch guns with Q to use it. Check out the Demo so far.

There is so much on the list, I don't know what to do next.

Started Melee Weapons

Woops, yesterday I forgot to put up a news post after I uploaded the latest version of the demo. Check it out Here.

The big addition is a chainsaw, be sure to play around with it. And I also added an early death system, so now you wont fall down an endless pit.

Weapon Update

Today I worked on the weapons having levels. This is the first gameplay feature in the new Demo that is different from the original version.

Having levels on the weapons changes a few things. These are:

  • You cannot use a weapon if it is higher than your level.
  • You will not be able to increase a weapon's level.
  • You can although increase a weapon's stats if it has upgrade slots available.
  • Weapons now have a damage range, so every bullet gets a random damage amount between its range.

This is just the beginning of game changing features for the new code. I can't wait to tell you all the rest. :)

Thanks for the boost :) I did update it some, but didn't post it yet. I was waiting to work on more weapons before posting.
