| Forum Programming Sunday - Nov. 22, 2009 12:28 am I started coding my own forum, because I was tired of having to deal with editing the look of pre-packaged forums. Plus with the added hassle of bots spamming, I decided to make my own from the ground up.
So far its surprisingly simple. Programmed with php and mysql its missing some features but it has the basics. I'll keep everyone updated here on the progress. | AdminCorvinexOnline! Kills: 9140 |

| Forum Programming Friday - Nov. 27, 2009 10:58 am umm, just an idea for something to do,
you mgiht want to add that thing taht most forums have, the navigation thing att he top.
on jgo is it like this:
JavaGaming.org / General Category / General Discussions (Moderators: ChrisM, woogley) | h3ckf1r3 Kills: 8687 |
| Forum Programming Friday - Nov. 27, 2009 3:02 pm Oh yeah, good idea. I'm also planning on doing the member stuff that is usually at the bottom. How many members, how many online, how many guests, and last member joined.
I also have to do the New Posts since gone thing, but I can't think of how to code it. Except for just recording the last time you were logged in, and compare dates of posts to it. But that isn't as good as other forums.
Thanks for the heads up. | AdminCorvinexOnline! Kills: 9140 |
| Forum Programming Saturday - Dec. 26, 2009 4:23 am Might want to add a few basic markup options like for quotes.

One way I could think of is to store the last time the user logged in. Then all posts added since then will be added to a list of unread posts and removed as they are read. All this info could probably be stored in the users cookies.
I have no idea how practical/good this solution is but maybe it helps. Good job on the new site so far. | zoto0 Kills: 20595 |
| Forum Programming Sunday - Jan. 17, 2010 12:07 pm Why go through all the trouble to create a forum from scratch when there are already many great free forum layouts you could use that have years of development behind them? | marinepower Kills: 6997 |
| Forum Programming Monday - Jan. 18, 2010 4:29 am Just as a challenge, and I have tried other ones. They require a lot of editing to get them looking the way you want them to. Most also get bot tracked very easily and therefore get a lot of spam.
Its also a hassle using their login system to work with an already established account system. So I wanted the most versatility with the minimum amount of hassle. It will also reduce the load on the database because I wont implement unnecessary features and optimize the most important. | AdminCorvinexOnline! Kills: 9140 |
